The American Veterinary Medical Association does not have an official stance on medical marijuana, but cannabis is not FDA-approved for pets. Furthermore, in any given state (even legal states with booming cannabis markets like Colorado), veterinarians are banned from writing prescriptions for cannabis products. In 2015, a bill introduced in the Nevada state legislature that would have allowed pet owners to feed medical marijuana to sick pets was shot down.
Doubts that linger around cannabidiol in dogs involve the continuing confusion and conflation of CBD with THC, as well as the cannabis plant’s legal status. To reiterate, CBD does not get anyone high, neither human nor dog, since the chemical is non-toxic and non-psychoactive. You may be aware that, in 2015, there was some controversy, as the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning to CBD dog treat manufacturer Canna-Pet. The substance of this warning was that Canna-Pet’s site announced claims on their website, touting the medical benefits and medicinal uses of their dog treats.
Several companies have already managed to stand out from the pack and make a name for themselves. We happened to see a few of these companies at the 2018 Global Pet Expo in Florida and learned about the products and their effectiveness right from the source. If you’re considering trying CBD oils for dogs or hemp dog treats, I strongly recommend starting with the following companies, each of which provide unique products.
I just want to share our experience with CBD products. My dog Daisy-Mae was suffering from kidney failure- so badly that she couldn’t even walk. I started her on the water soluble CBD and now within 24 hours she is a complete nut- running around, pawing my face at night because she is so excited she wants to play. This has been a complete God-sent to us! – Annie

Activated hemp is one of the leading ingredients in the cultivation process for hemp pet nutrition. These phytochemicals are formulated from whole plant extracts, which produces a natural and safe supplement for your pet. The abundance of hemp in our products come from the activated hemp, which has been carefully cultivated in U.S. soil and formulated and processed in U.S. laboratories.
First, we need to outline the distinction between CBD and THC. Cannabidiol is not the same thing as tetrahydrocannabinol. Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the major reason why words like “cannabis,” “marijuana,” “pot,” and “weed” provoke immediate and negative reactions among the general populace. Like CBD, THC is a cannabinoid. THC is a psychoactive compound that produces the sensations of being “stoned.”
My female pitbull momma and her puppies have suffered a severe trauma involving the suicide of my “husband”, their pack leader. They were present when he shot himself and were there truing to get him up and stayed by his side for afloat 2 hours before i got home… licking ands nudging at him… laying by his side crying when i got home. We were displaced for biohazard cleanup and obvious reasons but the dogs remained in the home… they lay in his spot where he wad discovered as are very distant from each other at times, aggressive more than normal, visually depressed, crying and whining… I was told to try puppy pot pulls but unsure of the type to purchase. I love in Arizona and honestly, not to worried if its legal. Due to the unexpectedly/untimely death and financial obligations, i can’t afford any type of training/grieving therapy. What would you recommend? There are 3 puppies and one momma. Puppies are 5.5 months (9/30/17) and about 42-46 pounds and mom is 3 years old (9/22/14) and about 49 pounds. All haves shots, very checked regularly… 100% full bred pit bulls. Any advice is welcomed as long ad is positive and helpful. No negative contents please as this is a very sensitive subject already and my fur-babies are vey important to me. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4966652a3d01673fcd0799182c36665e895478eeddbb4065b59bc0f4f813fcbe.jpg
A newer pet food product category getting a lot of buzz at US pet trade shows the past two years has been pet treats and supplements featuring cannabidiol (CBD). Sorry for the bad pun; this oil derives from the hemp plant, though a different species than ones containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana responsible for the psychoactive reaction, or high (buzz), in people or animals who imbibe it. CBD does not cause the same reaction, say its proponents in the pet industry.

The cannabis genus of plants has a conflicted reputation, mostly because marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, meaning it “has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States,” according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Times, attitudes, and even laws, change, and it’s been a decade since California pioneered the legal use of marijuana specifically for medicinal purposes. As of this writing, 25 states and the District of Columbia permit the sale and consumption of marijuana, both as medicine and as a recreational narcotic.
