I think she will end up,, by accident, killing herself. It is so, so sad. She had tried AA. That took us years of pleading with her to attend some meetings. They seemed to help a little bit but she has stopped going. I think she realises that there are people there just like her who have managed to quit and somehow she doesn’t seem to want to be part of that. She just keeps making up excuses or lies about why she won’t go back.
A report from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) published in the journal Pediatrics cautions pregnant women and nursing mothers to avoid marijuana use due to possible adverse developmental effects to their baby. In a study reviewed for the report, short-term exposure to CBD was found to increase the permeability of the placental barrier, potentially placing the fetus at risk from certain substances.
Because letting an anxiety disorder go untreated can deplete your quality of life and lead to physical health problems (such as digestive conditions), it’s crucial to consult a doctor rather than self-treating. If you’re thinking of using CBD oil to help manage your anxiety (and it is legal where you live), make sure to talk with your doctor about whether it's right for you.

Bad thing is that people remain massively uninformed about cannabis and cannabis derivatives. The average person doesn’t know what CBD is, they just equate cannabis with getting high and lazy stoner stereotypes. The gossip he speaks of then turns into gossiping about him and how he’s stoned all day, that’s why he’s so happy. I have had 100% positive effects from cbd oil. My anxiety feels like it’s under control in a healthy way for the first time in 20 years. I take 12mg 3 times daily. The only negative things about it worth mentioning are that it’s kind of pricey, and that people have noticed that I’m acting differently and are gossiping about what could have improved my mood so much https://cbdreamers.com/cbd-oil-for-anxiety-and-de…
Cannabis cooking oils like olive, peanut, or canola are great ways to inject THC into your meal. Cook with it as you would normally, just be mindful of how much you’re using since the effects of ingesting cannabis are slower to set in and last much longer than smoking. Ideas: saute veggies, roast potatoes, marinate meat, or mix up a vinaigrette for your favorite salad.
Kind of like cannabis, humans have been cultivating turmeric for a long time – over 4,000 years. The Ayurvedic medicinal herb was originally used as a medicinal herb in Southeast Asia, where turmeric also carries significant religious significance. Turmeric was a highly sought after commodity in the ancient spice trades that swept across China and Africa, all before the end of the 9th century.
Pros: Inhaled CBD tends to enter the bloodstream faster than other forms—in as quickly as 30 seconds or less, according to Mitch Earleywine, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the State University of New York, Albany, and an adviser to the marijuana advocacy group NORML. He is also the author of “Understanding Marijuana” (Oxford University Press). The quick action means it should affect the body sooner, which could be especially useful to ease immediate pain or anxiety, for example.
My question is specifically regarding CBD interactions with the endocannabinoid or limbic system and a mention made in your post regarding homeostasis. In April of this year I got a tube of "high CBD" oil which was foul tasting and made me gag. It did not sit well and my digestion went off. The company said that there was nothing wrong but by the end of the month I was in trouble. I stopped taking CBD and basically had an emotional breakdown. I went to a therapist to find out how and why I had basically lost homeostasis – precisely how I summarized my condition.

Rigorous clinical studies are still needed to evaluate the clinical potential of CBD for specific conditions.i However, pre-clinical research (including both cell culture and animal models) has shown CBD to have a range of effects that may be therapeutically useful, including anti-seizure, antioxidant, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-tumor, anti-psychotic, and anti-anxiety properties.

Secondly, keep in mind that pure hemp oil does not taste good to many. Each harvest renders slightly different flavors because the flavor and aroma come from compounds within the hemp plant called terpenes. Just like cannabinoids, you don’t know exactly which terpenes have developed in the plant until the oil has been extracted and tested. This makes it difficult to guarantee how each batch will taste.
Full Spectrum CBD Oil contains some of the same terpenes as dried cannabis bud. Terpenes are the aroma molecules found in plants. Beta-caryophyllene (pepper) and myrcene (musk) are both been found in hemp oil.  According to recent research, beta-caryophyllene acts as a cannabinoid in the body. It engages some of the same cell sites as smoked cannabis. In particular, the terpene interacts with cell receptors that regulate the immune system.  Myrcene has been found to have antidepressant and anti-inflammatory effects. It also acts as an antioxidant and helps molecules move across cell membranes. The combination of essential fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants and healing terpenes make hemp oil one powerful superfood.
CBD can be applied to the skin both as a cream and as a concentrate or tincture. When you apply CBD Concentrate to the skin, you do not need to apply as much as the cream because of the higher concentration of CBD. Due to its gluey texture, it will adhere very well to the skin and if the CBD oil has a dark color, it will give a stain. Just leave it on as long as possible. If necessary, you can easily remove the remaining concentrate with edible oil from the skin.
I’m in need of CBD products as my husband is suffering with prostate cancer which is seemingly incurable – we have tried a range of things to either slow down the process or prevent some of the pain – we’re still putting up with his frequent radiation and hormone treatment but that isn’t always the best route to go down. I stumbled across the uses of CBD and have been reading articles like this to help me understand what is is that I’m trying to buy.

Instead, CBD hemp oil is derived from cannabis plants that produce over 400 different compounds. Some are unique to the plant while others are common in other species of plants as well. Sixty of them, however, are unique to cannabis plants. These sixty compounds are classified as cannabinoids; cannabidiol is one of them. It happens to be the second-most prevalent cannabinoid occurring in cannabis and is completely separate from THC.
Some people require very small doses, while some still will feel nothing after a large dose. People also have different reactions to the various methods of use. It may take time to find the proper dosage and delivery method of CBD products to find the needed relief, so be patient. Some effects may be felt immediately, while others take a while to “build up” (particularly when looking for relief from epilepsy).
Later in the 1990’s, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) funded research that had the goal of proving that cannabis is addictive. But instead of identifying any biochemical pathway that could cause addiction, any research defined addiction by the presence or absence of some degree of withdrawal, with no specific parameters for withdrawal actually defined. In other words, if you’re thirsty, this NIDA-funded research could argue that this means you are addicted to water.

In general, the human body has specific sites that are allotted to cannabinoids, called the cannabinoid receptor sites. Receptors are mechanisms to which the cannabinoids naturally present in the human body as well as the ones artificially ingested/ applied attach themselves. There are two kinds of receptors for cannabinoids, the CB1, and the CB2. While the CB1 receptors are present in the brain, the CB2 receptors can be found in the immune system.
Hemp Oil is processed from the seeds and stalks of the hemp plant and despite its source, it contains little to none of the psychoactive element Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), meaning it cannot get you ‘high’. For instance hemp may contain 0.3-1.5% of THC whilst marijuana contains anything from 5% to 20% plus. Hemp oils main components are in fact omega fatty acids, similar to those which can be found in fish and olive oil.
Cannabis and alcohol both increase alpha and theta sleep and decrease delta sleep. Cannabis and alcohol inhibit delta sleep needed for the night time brain housekeeping duties and increase luteinizing hormone so core body temperature does not drop for brain cells to shrink for 60% more space between brain cells for the cerebral spinal fluid to wash out toxins. Since pot inhibits delta sleep, it also inhibits growth hormone and also dehydrates you, so klotho is reduced. Cannabis causes kidney stones by reduced klotho. Klotho is anti tumor, anti dementia, inhibits arteriosclerosis, osteoporosis, and skin atrophy, so since cannabis inhibits klotho, aging is increased. Cannibis decreases sex hormones, increases stress hormones, impairs fertility, inhibits copulation, reduces oxytocin-the love and protection hormone.

Cannabis has a rich history as a medicine for quelling seizures and convulsions going back thousands of years. In the mid-19th century, the U.S. Pharmacopeia listed cannabis tincture as a treatment for pediatric epilepsy, and subsequent scientific studies have documented the anticonvulsant effects of CBD, THC, and whole plant cannabis. CBD-dominant/low- THC cannabis strains and oil extracts can facilitate dramatic improvement in some children with intractable seizure disorders. Between 10-15 percent of severe childhood epileptics who are given CBD oil products experience a near complete cessation of seizures; most improve (with a decrease but not total elimination of seizures); and some children have worse seizures when they take CBD. Many parents of epileptic children have learned through trial and error that augmenting CBD-rich oil by adding some THC—or better yet, THCA, the unheated, non-psychoactive form of THC that’s present in raw cannabis flowers and leaves—helps with seizure control. The take-home message: Low-THC cannabis oil products don’t work for everyone. Patients of all ages need access to a wide spectrum of whole plant cannabis remedies, not just high CBD oil.

I have to go back to how the oil works, right? On the Endocannabinoid system which works on all other systems. So I have seen ladies stop having IBS, and for me personally, I no longer struggle with constipation. yeah. As for Type 1 Diabetes, yes, there is a ton of research, I suggest google scholar to find articles on it. I believe it will help your son, feel free to reach out to me to connect more. Happy to help.

Find the right CBD to THC ratio for you. Some people enjoy the high that THC provides, while others feel undesirably “out of it” when they use products with significant amounts of THC. No single ratio works for everyone, so experiment with a few different ones until you feel that the product you’re using is working well and helping you. You can also choose a ratio based on what you’re hoping to achieve with the use of CBD oil.[7]

As cannabis–based therapeutic products become more widely available and accepted, it’s natural to have questions. After all, a lot of the treatments on the market today weren’t around just a couple of years ago. While cannabinoids like CBD show a lot of promise in treating a host of conditions, it can be hard to know how to introduce them into an existing healthcare routine. Today, we explore the role CBD tinctures can play in your well-being.

These are made utilizing methods that generally involve the use of a solvent, although recently carbon dioxide extractions have become popular. An extract is the generic term used to describe any oil that has been processed to concentrate the cannabis plant’s chemical compounds. This is achieved through a variety of extraction processes and solvents, the most common being butane. Advancements in extraction technology have enabled the use of other solvents such as carbon dioxide and pure hydrocarbons.

In June 2018, the FDA approved the drug Epidiolex, an oral preparation of pure CBD for treatment of two rare and severe forms of epilepsy in children. The drug is made by the GW Pharmaceutical Company and was tested in three randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials, including 516 patients. It was found to be effective in reducing the frequency of seizures.
Cannabidiol may cause serious allergic reactions, including angioedema. These can be life-threatening and require immediate medical attention. Tell your doctor right away if you have a rash, itching, hoarseness, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, or large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals after using cannabidiol.
This can produce markedly different effects depending on the individual. Because the oral route is convenient it is the one most often used when taking cannabis oil, capsules or cannabis edibles. However onset of effects are delayed and last longer due to slower absorption of the cannabinoids and is an important consideration when deciding on how to use and administer cannabis oil.
There have been a number of studies investigating the conceivable part of CBD oil in vanquishing pain of all proportions, be it menstrual cramps or pain of a chronic magnitude. The Journal of Experimental medicine speaks about the utilization of CBD oil for suppressing neuropathic pain in rodents. In spite of the fact that such studies are yet to be replicated with human beings, CBD oil is a good tolerance-builder, an agent that enhances the physique’s ability to cope with and be resilient to pain.

CBD may offer an option for treating different types of chronic pain. A study from the European Journal of Pain showed, using an animal model, CBD applied on the skin could help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis. Another study demonstrated the mechanism by which CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain, two of the most difficult types of chronic pain to treat. More study in humans is needed in this area to substantiate the claims of CBD proponents about pain control.
While smoking is the number one way to use cannabis for relaxation, it has its limitations. For one, the effects only last for a couple of hours at the most. Secondly, you are limited as to where you can use it. Edibles, on the other hand, are a fantastic alternative when vaping is not possible. Edibles have been growing in popularity over the years and the increased popularity has led to an increase in variety.

Laboratory evidence indicated that cannabidiol may reduce THC clearance, increasing plasma concentrations which may raise THC availability to receptors and enhance its effect in a dose-dependent manner.[25][26] In vitro, cannabidiol inhibited receptors affecting the activity of voltage-dependent sodium and potassium channels, which may affect neural activity.[27] A small clinical trial reported that CBD partially inhibited the CYP2C-catalyzed hydroxylation of THC to 11-OH-THC.[28]
Because CBD oil products are mostly unregulated, there’s no guarantee that any given product contains a safe or effective level of CBD. In fact, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2017 found that nearly 70 percent of all CBD products sold online are incorrectly labeled, and could cause serious harm to consumers. Some CBD oils may also contain incorrectly labeled amounts of THC and other compounds.
The most common reasons people used CBD were to treat insomnia, depression, anxiety and joint pain, according to Dr. Perry Solomon, the Chief Medical Officer of HelloMD. Forty-two percent of the CBD users said they had stopped using traditional medications like Tylenol pain relievers or prescription drugs like Vicodin and had switched to using cannabis instead. Eighty percent said that they found the products to be “very or extremely effective.” Only 3% or less found the product to be either ineffectual or only slightly effective.
Time for true confessions, folks. It is February 9, 2017, and I have missed several months of comments for the simple reasons that things went a little crazy around here. I very much apologize. I am tackling them now for the sake of those faithful and new readers who might actually read them all. I am going to start with the most recent. Bear with me.
In terms of popularity, hemp seed oil might not be on the same level as, say, olive oil or even coconut oil, but that could be due to the confusion that surrounds the product. Usually referred to as just hemp oil, this product is different than hash oil—also known as CBD hemp oil—which is made from the Cannabis flower and contains THC. Instead, standard hemp oil is made by cold-pressing hemp seeds and has no psychoactive properties.
A 2013 case report conducted in Canada evaluated the beneficial effects of cannabis oil on a 14-year-old female patient diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, also known as ALL. For this particular patient, a standard bone marrow transplant, aggressive chemotherapy and radiation therapy were revoked, with treatment being deemed a failure after 34 months. She was extremely ill and severely underweight at this time.
You get the idea, and now you probably also have a pretty good idea of why pharmaceutical companies would want to patent some chemical-ized version of this. So, I’d suspect that we’re not too far away from an enormously overpriced cannabis-like chemical produced in a pharmaceutical factory. But in the meantime, you can get the identical effects from entirely natural sources of CBD. Let’s take a look at what some of those most relevant effects would be.
I just read your comment on Mary Vance’s website and had to reread the study. It turns out that you are correct. The wording is misleading and I am so disappointed because I wanted to believe. I just purchased some CBD oil for my high cortisol levels. I can’t believe that people are quoting this study when it states the exact opposite. Thank you for pointing that out.
This is where it gets important: Due to THC’s psychoactive qualities, it is known to provide a high that can be either euphoric or accompanied by paranoia and other negative effects, depending upon the strain and user. While THC is frequently used for those suffering from chronic pain, mood disorders, and other medical ailments, its effects can be difficult to predict, and – sometimes – unpleasant.
I almost cried when I listened to this podcast! I am 11 weeks pregnant (and sicker than my previous three pregnancies!), dealing with hormonal/seasonal depression, digestive issues, and worst of all, chronic debilitating myofascial pain in my back. I have so many similarities with Lane’s story, and while I’m sure many of our health problems are different, I too have been to doctor after doctor, naturopath, massage therapist, PT, chiropractor, etc, and no one seems to be able to give me an answer to my pain. I went from being a boot camp instructor, personal trainer, who took my kids hiking most days, to barely being able to walk a few blocks around my neighborhood. I’m so desperate for anything to help. I know the depression, though partly normal for me in February in MT, is being exacerbated by chronic pain, and the hopeless feeling that it will never go away. This podcast made me hopeful that perhaps there is something out there that may help. I ordered from SOL CBD just now. Thank you Katie for your great podcasts and blog, and thank you Lane for the wealth of information on CBD! God bless!:)
CBD & THC are just 2 of many cannabiniods that will be seen on certificates of analysis; CBN for example is known to treat insomnia due to it’s sedating qualities & the list of terpenes, is long & each one has it’s own specific medicinal value. There’s a tremendous amount of learning involved with finding the right CBD product as well as the individual doseage; it’s advised for all beginners to “start slow & low”.
In celebration of Hemp History Week 2016, Maria Rodale (yes, THAT Rodale) originally published this article on her blog, Maria’s Farm Country Kitchen on May 26, 2016.  I am grateful to her for the opportunity to share a few of the abundantly numerous benefits of industrial hemp.  Dr. Bronner’s ardently supports the efforts to legalize the growth of this amazing crop and uses hemp oil in many of our products, including our Pure Castile Soaps, for reasons you’ll see below.
Because commercial cannabis production is still relatively new – many doctors haven’t figured out how to properly suggest doses for cannabis oil versus dried cannabis. To help them (and as part of the licensing process for producers), Health Canada has created the Equivalency Factor, which applies cannabis to a more familiar context of dosage of medicine.
Children:A prescription cannabidiol product (Epidiolex) is POSSIBLY SAFE when taken by mouth daily. The most common dose used is 10 mg/kg daily. Higher doses of 15-20 mg/kg daily may be used in some children, but these higher doses are more likely to cause side effects. This product is approved for use in certain children 2 year of age and older, but has been used in children as young as 1 year of age.
Hemp oil is an abundant source of alpha-linolenic acid. Alpha-linolenic acid is an omega-3 fatty acid that is essential to proper organ function. It is similar to the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil, and can help prevent heart disease, arthritis and depression, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. It can also help reduce low density lipoprotein cholesterol, the "bad" cholesterol that clogs arteries.
It is important to note that the federal government still considers cannabis a dangerous drug and that the illegal distribution and sale of marijuana is a serious crime. Under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), marijuana is still considered a Schedule 1 drug. Cultivation and distribution of marijuana are felonies; possession for personal use is a misdemeanor; possession of “paraphernalia” is also illegal. Cultivating 100 plants or more carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years according to federal statutes.

Anal placement. Whether or not rectal suppositories deliver CBD into the bloodstream is highly variable between individuals. If the suppository also contains THC in a general cannabinoid formula, placement of the suppository into the lower rectum (closer to the sphincter) can help avoid first-pass metabolism and the risk of a more “stoned” feeling.
Among common CBD benefits, natural pain relief tops the list for many. Evidence suggests that cannabinoids may prove useful in pain modulation by inhibiting neuronal transmission in pain pathways. A 2012 study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine found that CBD significantly suppressed chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain in rodents without causing analgesic tolerance. Researchers suggest that CBD and other nonpsychoactive components of marijuana may represent a novel class of therapeutic agents for the treatment of chronic pain.
Check with your doctor before using cannabidiol with alcohol or other medicines that affect the central nervous system (CNS). The use of alcohol or other medicines that affect the CNS with cannabidiol may worsen the side effects of cannabidiol, such as dizziness, poor concentration, drowsiness, unusual dreams, and trouble with sleeping. Some examples of medicines that affect the CNS are antihistamines or medicine for allergies or colds, sedatives, tranquilizers, or sleeping medicines, medicine for depression, medicine for anxiety, prescription pain medicine or narcotics, medicine for attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, medicine for seizures or barbiturates, muscle relaxants, or anesthetics, including some dental anesthetics.

CBD oil products can be somewhat expensive, which may be a barrier for individuals seeking treatment or relief from different conditions and disorders. cbdMD is a notable exception as far as price-point is concerned. cbdMD offers it’s premium, non-THC oils at a large variety of concentrations (300mg-5,000mg) as well as sizes (30mL and 60mL) . These oils are priced at $29.99 for 300mg oils and $99.99 for 1,500mg oils; these price-points are significantly below average.
Some CBD manufacturers have come under government scrutiny for wild, indefensible claims, such that CBD is a cure-all for cancer, which it is not. We need more research but CBD may be prove to be an option for managing anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain. Without sufficient high-quality evidence in human studies we can’t pinpoint effective doses, and because CBD is currently is mostly available as an unregulated supplement, it’s difficult to know exactly what you are getting. If you decide to try CBD, talk with your doctor — if for no other reason than to make sure it won’t affect other medications you are taking.
An actual long term study, Ganja in Jamaica: A Medical Anthropological Study of Chronic Marijuana Use, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1975, showed zero concerns with addiction, even after patients who had used cannabis for decades had stopped. The 1980 study Cannabis in Costa Rica: A Study in Chronic Marijuana Use backed this up. Most interestingly, studies like this are not finding any addictive potential with CBD even in the presence of THC!
Good to know: You can also consume CBD in pill form. Similar to ingesting CBD in an edible, pills can take upward of 30 minutes or more to digest before you experience an effect, Earleywine says. One benefit though is that the per-pill CBD dose should be clearer on packaging than for other forms. And for chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, where you might be trying to maintain consistent CBD levels in your body, pills may be an easier solution.

If medical marijuana is illegal in a given state, THC levels determine whether a CBD product is illicit or not. In most places, the limit is extremely low. We’re talking under 1 percent THC, with some states opting for a cap as low as 0.3 percent. In this case, the only source that would work is hemp, and CBD products will, therefore, be hemp-derived.
As of 2018, you can purchase CBD derived from the marijuana plant legally in 46 states (and 3 territories) with a prescription for medicinal usage. The laws for each state is different, especially when it comes to how much THC can legally be present in the product. The four states where marijuana-derived CBD is completely illegal include Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota.

Topicals don’t make it into your bloodstream, just into your cannabinoid receptors, and can be great for localized pain. Under the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) in Canada, licensed producers of medical cannabis can’t currently manufacture or distribute topicals – but with the distribution of oils, it’s possible for you to make your own (with carrier oils and other bases for creams.)
A 2013 study conducted at the University of Haifa in Israel found that cannabinoid treatment after a traumatic experience may regulate the emotional response to the trauma and prevent stress-induced impairment. Cannabinoid treatment minimized the stress receptors in the basolateral amygdala (the nuclei that receives that majority of sensory information) and hippocampus (the part of the brain that is thought to be the center of emotion). (4)

Phytocannabinoid-rich hemp oil has a higher concentration of CBD compared to other cannabinoids. When ingested, CBD interacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system. This triggers the body to consume more of its own cannabinoids, which directly influences our immune system—where the majority of CBD receptors are found. This helps reduce inflammation and pain and promotes a healthier immune system.
Hemp oil is a powerhouse of nutrition when it comes to healthy fats. And it is better than flaxseed oil, which in itself is a reputed source of omega – 3. Hempseed oil is more than 40 % oils , and 80 % of these are essential fatty acids ( EFA ). These are healthy fats which are required by the body but are not synthesized inside. So, these need to be obtained from food.
Even with so many unknowns about CBD’s effectiveness, retailers are popping up across the country. Tia Tagliaferro is chief operating officer for Hemp Garden, which sells hemp-based CBD products at its stores in New York City and Wilmington, N.C. She says the potential healing benefits of CBD and its popularity are what spurred the company to open its latest shop in New York earlier this summer, with plans to expand into other East Coast locations in the coming months.
Early preclinical findings also suggest that CBD may have therapeutic value as a treatment of substance use disorders. CBD reduced the rewarding effects of morphinexxxviii and reduced cue-induced heroin seekingxxxix in animal models. A few small clinical trials have examined CBD and/or nabiximols (THC/CBD) for the treatment of substance use disorders; however, the available data are not sufficient to draw conclusions. NIDA is supporting multiple ongoing clinical trials in this area.

Hi, In your wonderful CBD overview above you state that the reason you started using CBD oil in the first place was to lower your cortisol levels. Did you succeed? If you are comfortable with doing so can you share the ‘before’ levels and the ‘after’ levels? Or maybe just the amount of the drop (average)..?? And, was this CBD product you now sell the one that you were using then?
Later, Queen Victoria’s physician and one of the world’s leading doctors of that era, Sir Russell Reynolds, prescribed medicinal cannabis for the Queen’s menstrual cramps, for which CBD still works fantastically today. When writing about medical marijuana in the first edition of the British medical journal The Lancet, Reynolds proclaimed that cannabis is “one of the most valuable medicines we possess.” Another widely hailed physician at the time, Sir William Osler, used CBD for migraines with excellent results.
